Date rape is when a person is sexually violated by a person known to the victim without his/her consent. It has also been referred to as acquaintance rape.

  1. What is the date rape drug

This is a drug that is used to render the unsuspecting  victim helpless or so as to sexually violate the victim. The commonest drug is ROHYPNOL. This drug is odorless and colorless and easily dissolves in liquids, making it an easy weapon to use. The drug causes dizziness, sedation, loss of consciousness, and memory loss. Many report that they cannot recall the events that transpired. In Kenya, such drugs are referred to as ‘Mchele’. Most times, alcohol is involved,  such that victims report that they were drinking alcoholic beverages  at a club or drinking with friends or ‘a friend’.

Alcohol can cause the same effects, namely, reduced or loss of consciousness, memory loss, poor judgement thus altered decision making, confusion, and one can be unable to fight advances that they would normally not entertain. It is common for predators to use alcohol to bait victims into having sex without consent.

-DO NOT SHOWER

-DO NOT CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES, but if you must, place them in a PAPER BAG! (not plastic)

-GO TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL OR CALL EMERGENCY SERVICES  FOR HELP.

– IF YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK, GO TO A POLICE STATION OR CALL FOR HELP

 

  1. Can a doctor diagnose rape?

No, a doctor cannot diagnose rape. The doctor’s role s to treat  any medical emergencies or conditions, and to examine,document and treat any injuries. DIAGNOSISNG ‘RAPE’ IS THE COURT’S DECISION. The doctor HELPS  the court by giving testimony in court as an expert witness.

Call emergency services immediately.
